AI-suggested

A patch is available in GitPython version 9.24.0 that adds the necessary check_unsafe_options guard to Commit.count(), preventing unsafe argument forwarding. Users should upgrade to version 9.24.0 or later to remediate this vulnerability. No other mitigation is required as the vulnerability is fixed in the official release.

Description

GitPython's Commit.count() method improperly forwards user-supplied options to git rev-list without safety checks, allowing an attacker with process-level privileges to truncate arbitrary files to zero bytes. This vulnerability affects versions up to 3.1.53 and was fixed in version 9.24.0. The impact is limited to file destruction (integrity and availability) without content control, resulting in a medium severity rating.
