AI-suggested

A fix is available in GitPython version 2.9.0. Users and applications should upgrade to version 2.9.0 or later to remediate this vulnerability. Until upgraded, avoid passing untrusted input to multi_options parameters in clone or submodule update operations.

Description

GitPython versions from 2.1.0 up to but not including 2.9.0 contain a vulnerability in the handling of multi_options in clone operations. The validation of unsafe options is performed on the original list of options before they are transformed by shlex.split, allowing crafted input strings to bypass checks and inject unsafe git clone options such as --config core.hooksPath. This can lead to execution of attacker-controlled git hooks during repository cloning or submodule updates.
