Description

Gladys Assistant versions before 5.1.0 have a vulnerability in the password reset functionality where the origin parameter is not validated server-side. This flaw allows unauthenticated attackers to craft malicious password reset links that leak valid reset tokens to the attacker. Exploiting this can lead to full account takeover, including administrator accounts.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability in Gladys Assistant before version 5.1.0 involves the forgot_password endpoint accepting a client-supplied origin parameter without proper server-side validation. An attacker can exploit this by sending a crafted request with an attacker-controlled origin, causing the victim to receive a poisoned password reset link. This link discloses the valid password reset token to the attacker, enabling them to reset the victim's password and take over the account, including accounts with administrative privileges.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows unauthenticated remote attackers to obtain valid password reset tokens for any user account, leading to full account takeover. This includes the compromise of administrator accounts, which can result in complete control over the affected system.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fix is available in Gladys Assistant version 5.1.0 and later. Users should upgrade to version 5.1.0 or newer to remediate this vulnerability. No additional mitigation steps are indicated beyond applying the official update.
