AI-suggested

A fix is available in version 3.8.1 of Python-Markdown. Users and administrators should upgrade to version 3.8.1 or later to remediate this vulnerability. No additional mitigation is required once the patch is applied.

Description

Python-Markdown version 3.8 contains a vulnerability where malformed HTML-like sequences cause the html.parser.HTMLParser to raise an unhandled AssertionError during Markdown parsing. This unhandled exception can crash applications processing attacker-controlled Markdown, leading to remote unauthenticated Denial of Service. The issue was fixed in version 3.8.1. This affects applications such as web services, documentation systems, and CI/CD pipelines that render untrusted Markdown.
