AI-suggested

Upgrade AnyIO to version 0.32.1 or later, where this issue is fixed. The patch corrects the forwarding of the extra_groups argument in open_process(), ensuring proper privilege dropping. No other mitigation is required as the fix is available.

Description

AnyIO versions from 0.31.0_13 up to but not including 0.32.1 have a vulnerability in the handling of the extra_groups argument in run_process() and open_process() functions. The open_process() function incorrectly forwards the extra_groups parameter, causing child processes to retain parent supplementary groups instead of properly clearing or setting them. This affects POSIX privilege-dropping correctness for applications relying on AnyIO subprocess helpers to launch less-privileged child processes. The issue is fixed in version 0.32.1.
