Description

ImageMagick versions before 6.9.13-57 and 7.x before 7.1.2-32 have a vulnerability in the TGA image decoder that causes an uninitialized memory read. This flaw allows attackers to craft malicious TGA images that, when processed, can disclose contents of uninitialized memory from the ImageMagick process. The vulnerability has a medium severity rating with a CVSS score of 5.3.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-109259 describes an uninitialized memory read vulnerability in the TGA image decoder component of ImageMagick. Versions prior to 6.9.13-57 and 7.x prior to 7.1.2-32 are affected. The flaw can be triggered by processing a specially crafted TGA image, resulting in disclosure of uninitialized memory contents from the ImageMagick process memory space. This vulnerability is classified under CWE-200 (Exposure of Sensitive Information).

Potential Impact

An attacker can supply a crafted TGA image to an affected ImageMagick installation, causing the software to disclose contents of uninitialized memory. This may lead to exposure of potentially sensitive information residing in the process memory. There is no indication of integrity or availability impact. No known exploits in the wild have been reported.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fix is available in ImageMagick versions 6.9.13-57 and 7.1.2-32 and later. Users should upgrade to these or later versions to remediate this vulnerability. No additional mitigations are specified.
