Description

Apache Camel Karavan versions from 4.0.0 up to but not including 4.22.1 contain an improper input validation vulnerability. This flaw allows an authenticated user of any role to deploy arbitrary Kubernetes resources by submitting a crafted kubernetes.yaml file. The vulnerability arises because Karavan applies all resources in the deployment file without restricting resource kinds, rejecting security-sensitive pod options, or pinning the namespace. This can lead to the creation of privileged pods and other risky configurations within the cluster. The issue is fixed in version 4.22.1.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-103413 describes an improper input validation vulnerability in Apache Camel Karavan where, during deployment, the application unmarshals a project's kubernetes.yaml and applies all contained Kubernetes resources without restrictions. This lack of validation allows any authenticated user to cause Karavan to apply arbitrary Kubernetes resources within the permissions of its service account, including pods with hostNetwork, hostPID, hostIPC, hostPath volumes, host ports, privileged containers, privilege escalation, or added capabilities. The vulnerability affects versions from 4.0.0 before 4.22.1 and is resolved in version 4.22.1.

Potential Impact

An attacker with any authenticated role can leverage this vulnerability to deploy arbitrary Kubernetes resources with potentially elevated privileges within the cluster. This could lead to full compromise of the cluster environment, including privilege escalation and unauthorized access to host resources, resulting in high confidentiality, integrity, and availability impact.

Mitigation Recommendations

Users should upgrade Apache Camel Karavan to version 4.22.1 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. No other mitigations are specified. Patch status is confirmed by the vendor advisory recommending upgrade to 4.22.1.
