Technical Analysis

The Mediawiki MassMessage extension contains a stored XSS vulnerability caused by improper input neutralization during web page generation. This flaw allows attackers to inject malicious scripts that are stored and later executed in the context of users viewing the affected pages. The vulnerability affects versions prior to 1.46.1, 1.45.5, and 1.43.10 of the extension.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary scripts in the context of users' browsers, potentially leading to session hijacking, defacement, or other malicious actions within the affected Mediawiki environment.

Mitigation Recommendations

No explicit patch or remediation information is provided in the input data. Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Users should monitor official Wikimedia Foundation advisories for updates and apply any released patches promptly.
