Technical Analysis

Apache Kylin versions 4.0.4 through 5.0.4 contain an OS Command Injection vulnerability due to improper neutralization of special elements in OS commands. This vulnerability could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary OS commands on affected systems, but the impact is mostly limited to Kylin services exposed to the public network, which is not a common deployment scenario. In-house deployments are generally not impacted. The vendor has addressed this issue in version 5.0.5.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability could allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary OS commands on affected Apache Kylin services that are directly exposed to the public network. Since such exposure is uncommon, the overall impact is limited. In-house deployments are mostly unaffected.

Mitigation Recommendations

Users should upgrade Apache Kylin to version 5.0.5, which contains the official fix for this OS Command Injection vulnerability.
