Source: GCVE Database
Product: thrift

Description

Apache Thrift c_glib bindings contain an improper validation of certificates when there is a host mismatch. This vulnerability affects versions before 0.24.0. The issue allows an attacker to bypass proper certificate validation, potentially leading to man-in-the-middle attacks. Users are advised to upgrade to version 0.24.0, which addresses this vulnerability.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability in Apache Thrift c_glib bindings involves improper validation of certificates when the certificate's host does not match the expected host. This flaw affects all versions prior to 0.24.0. The improper validation can allow an attacker to present a certificate with a mismatched host and have it accepted, undermining the security guarantees of TLS connections. The issue is fixed in version 0.24.0.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability can lead to an attacker intercepting or manipulating communications by presenting a certificate with a host mismatch that is improperly validated. This compromises confidentiality and integrity of data transmitted over affected connections. The CVSS score of 9.1 indicates a high impact on confidentiality and integrity with no required privileges or user interaction.

Mitigation Recommendations

Users should upgrade Apache Thrift to version 0.24.0 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. No other mitigations are indicated by the vendor advisory.
