Fixes are available and have been released by Red Hat in multiple errata for OpenShift Virtualization versions 4.20 and 4.21. Users should apply these official updates to remediate the vulnerability. No additional mitigations are indicated by the vendor advisory.

Description

A vulnerability in containerized-data-importer (CDI) involves the cdi.kubevirt.io:view ClusterRole, which is intended to provide read-only access but incorrectly grants create permission on the datavolumes/source subresource. This flaw allows users with the view role and write access to any namespace to clone and exfiltrate the contents of any PersistentVolumeClaim (PVC) across namespaces, bypassing namespace isolation and the read-only guarantee of the view role.
