Description
In netty-codec-redis versions prior to 4.1.135.Final and 4.2.15.Final, an attacker can cause a denial of service (DoS) by sending specially crafted Redis payloads across multiple connections without proper line termination. This triggers exhaustion of the server's direct memory pool, resulting in an OutOfDirectMemoryError and preventing legitimate connections from being processed. The issue is patched in versions 4.1.135.Final and 4.2.15.Final.

Technical Analysis
Netty is a network application framework used for protocol servers and clients. The netty-codec-redis component prior to versions 4.1.135.Final and 4.2.15.Final contains a vulnerability where an attacker can send crafted Redis payloads lacking '\r\n' across multiple connections. This causes the server's direct memory pool to be exhausted, leading to an OutOfDirectMemoryError and denial of service by blocking legitimate connections. The vulnerability is addressed in versions 4.1.135.Final and 4.2.15.Final.
Potential Impact
Successful exploitation results in denial of service by exhausting the server's direct memory pool, causing OutOfDirectMemoryError and preventing legitimate Redis connections from being processed. There is no impact on confidentiality or integrity reported.
Mitigation Recommendations
Upgrade netty-codec-redis to version 4.1.135.Final or later, or 4.2.15.Final or later, where this issue is patched. No other mitigations are specified.
