CVE-2026-76323: The product does not validate or incorrectly validates input that can affect the control flow or data flow of a program. in Splunk Splunk Enterprise

Vendor/Project: Splunk
Product: Splunk Enterprise

Description

In Splunk Enterprise versions below 10.4.2, 10.2.6, 10.0.9, and 9.4.14, a user who does not hold the "admin" or "power" Splunk roles could bypass Search Processing Language (SPL) safeguards for risky commands through the Job Details dashboard. The injected SPL could run using the permissions of an authenticated user who opens a crafted Job Details dashboard link. This could allow access to all relevant data and affect system integrity within those permissions. The vulnerability is possible because the Job Details dashboard does not correctly neutralize a caller-supplied search identifier before placing it into SPL searches. The vulnerability requires the attacker to phish the user by tricking them into opening the crafted link. The user who does not hold the "admin" or "power" Splunk roles should not be able to exploit the vulnerability at will. For more information see About jobs and job management (https://help.splunk.com/en/splunk-enterprise/search/search-manual/10.4/manage-jobs/about-jobs-and-job-management) in the Splunk documentation.

Technical Analysis

In affected Splunk Enterprise versions prior to 10.4.2, 10.2.6, 10.0.9, and 9.4.14, a vulnerability exists due to improper neutralization of a caller-supplied search identifier in the Job Details dashboard. This flaw enables a user lacking admin or power roles to inject SPL commands that execute with the permissions of the authenticated user who opens a maliciously crafted Job Details dashboard link. The vulnerability requires user interaction (UI:R) and has a high impact on confidentiality and integrity within the scope of the user's permissions. The issue is tracked as CVE-2026-76323 and is classified under CWE-20 (Improper Input Validation).

Potential Impact

An attacker can trick a user without admin or power roles into opening a crafted Job Details dashboard link, causing injected SPL commands to run with that user's permissions. This can lead to unauthorized access to data and affect system integrity within the scope of the compromised user's privileges. The vulnerability does not allow privilege escalation beyond the user's existing permissions and requires user interaction.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is applied, users should be cautious about opening untrusted Job Details dashboard links. Restricting access to the Job Details dashboard and educating users about phishing risks can reduce exposure. Monitor official Splunk advisories for updates and apply patches once available.
