In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/amdgpu: fix a job->pasid access race in gpu recovery Avoid a possible UAF in GPU recovery due to a race between the sched timeout callback and the tdr work queue. The gpu recovery function calls drm_sched_stop() and later drm_sched_start(). drm_sched_start() restarts the tdr queue which will eventually free the job. If the tdr queue frees the job before time out callback completes, the job will be freed and we'll get a UAF when accessing the pasid. Cache it early to avoid the UAF. Technical Summary
CVE-2025-68793 is a use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel's AMDGPU driver caused by a race condition between the scheduler timeout callback and the TDR work queue during GPU recovery. The gpu recovery function calls drm_sched_stop() and drm_sched_start(), where drm_sched_start() restarts the TDR queue that may free the job. If the job is freed before the timeout callback completes, accessing job->pasid results in a use-after-free. The vulnerability was fixed by caching the pasid early to avoid accessing freed memory. The issue was confirmed by KASAN (Kernel Address Sanitizer) traces showing slab-use-after-free errors.
Potential Impact
Successful exploitation of this vulnerability can lead to use-after-free conditions in kernel memory, potentially causing system crashes, instability, or escalation of privileges due to corrupted kernel memory. The CVSS vector indicates local attack vector with low attack complexity, requiring low privileges, no user interaction, and impacts confidentiality, integrity, and availability with high severity.
Mitigation Recommendations
A fix for this vulnerability has been implemented in the Linux kernel AMDGPU driver. Users and administrators should apply the official kernel updates that include this patch to mitigate the issue. Since this is a kernel-level vulnerability, updating to a patched kernel version is the recommended remediation. Patch status is not explicitly confirmed in the provided data; therefore, check the vendor or Linux kernel advisory for the exact fixed versions and update accordingly.
