AI-suggested

Since this is a client-side vulnerability affecting specific WhatsApp app versions, users should update WhatsApp to versions later than 2.26.15.72 on iOS and later than 2.26.7.10 on Android once such updates are available. Until then, caution is advised when interacting with Instagram Reels AI rich response messages within WhatsApp. Monitor vendor advisories for official remediation guidance.

Description

A vulnerability in WhatsApp for iOS versions 2.25.8.0 to 2.26.15.72 and WhatsApp for Android versions 2.25.8.0 to 2.26.7.10 allows incomplete validation of AI rich response messages for Instagram Reels. This flaw could enable a user to cause another user's device to process media content from an arbitrary URL, potentially triggering OS-controlled custom URL scheme handlers. There is no evidence of exploitation in the wild.
