Description

An integer overflow vulnerability exists in mod_dav_fs of Apache HTTP Server versions through 2.4.68. This flaw allows an authenticated WebDAV client with write access to crash worker processes and cause persistent corruption of a directory's property database by sending PROPPATCH requests with many XML namespaces.

Affected software

apache/httpd
pkg:rpm/apache/httpd
Affected versions
<=2.4.68

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-93546 is an integer overflow vulnerability in the mod_dav_fs module of Apache HTTP Server versions up to 2.4.68. An authenticated WebDAV client with write permissions can exploit this by sending PROPPATCH requests that declare numerous XML namespaces, triggering an integer overflow that crashes worker processes and corrupts the directory's property database persistently.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation results in denial of service through crashing of worker processes and persistent corruption of the directory property database, potentially affecting WebDAV functionality and data integrity for affected servers.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict WebDAV write access to trusted users and monitor for unusual PROPPATCH activity.
