Until a fix is available, avoid processing untrusted SIP packets or pcap files with sngrep versions up to 1.9.0 to mitigate risk.
Description
Irontec sngrep versions up to 1.9.0 contain an out-of-bounds stack read vulnerability in the functions sip_check_packet and sip_validate_packet. This vulnerability is caused by an off-by-one length check on SIP payloads of 10240 bytes. Remote attackers can exploit this by sending crafted UDP or TCP SIP packets or by supplying malicious pcap files, potentially causing the application to crash or leak adjacent stack memory into SIP fields displayed by sngrep.
