Published: 05/06/2026 (05/06/2026, 23:39:47 UTC)
Source: GCVE Database
Product: ldap3_proto

Description

The ldap3_proto library contains a vulnerability where LDAP queries are not validated for depth, potentially causing the parser to exhaust the stack. This can lead to a denial of service in applications processing these queries. A patch is available to address this issue. No known exploits are reported in the wild.

Technical Analysis

ldap3_proto suffers from a stack exhaustion vulnerability due to lack of depth validation in LDAP query parsing. Both PEG and ASN parsers can exhaust the stack when processing deeply nested queries, potentially causing denial of service. This vulnerability is tracked as GHSA-qcxq-75wr-5cm8 and relates to CWE-674 (Excessive Control Loop Iteration) and CWE-770 (Allocation of Resources Without Limits or Throttling). A fix has been made available in versions 0.7.1 and later.

Potential Impact

Applications using vulnerable versions of ldap3_proto (<0.7.1) may be susceptible to denial of service caused by stack exhaustion when processing crafted LDAP queries with excessive depth. This can disrupt service availability but does not indicate code execution or data compromise.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade ldap3_proto to version 0.7.1 or later where this stack exhaustion vulnerability has been fixed. No other workarounds are available or recommended.
