Until a fix is available, avoid processing untrusted GIF images with the gif_consolidate option enabled in affected versions of Imager::File::GIF. Consider disabling gif_consolidate or using alternative image processing libraries that are not vulnerable.

Description

Imager::File::GIF versions before 1.006 for Perl contain an out-of-bounds read vulnerability when consolidating GIF images with the gif_consolidate option enabled. This flaw allows palette indices to be used without bounds checking, leading to reads beyond allocated heap memory. An attacker can supply a crafted GIF to disclose adjacent heap memory or cause a process crash. The default GIF reader is not affected. The vulnerable code is also included in the Imager distribution.
