AI-suggested

Apply the official patches by upgrading to CPython versions 3.8.20, 3.9.20, 3.10.15, 3.11.10, or 3.12.6 or later. Avoid processing untrusted zip archives with zipfile.Path methods until patched. No other mitigations are specified.

Description

CVE-2024-8088 is a high severity vulnerability in the CPython zipfile module's zipfile.Path API. Iterating over entry names in a maliciously crafted zip archive can cause an infinite loop. This affects metadata reading and content extraction via zipfile.Path methods like namelist() and iterdir(). The more common zipfile.ZipFile class is not affected. Only programs processing untrusted zip archives are at risk. Fixed versions are available.
