Until a fix is available, users should avoid opening untrusted Nikon NEF/TIFF images from untrusted sources to mitigate risk.

Description

LibRaw versions through 0.22.2 have a heap-based out-of-bounds read vulnerability in the parseNikonMakernote() function. This flaw allows attackers to supply a crafted Nikon NEF/TIFF image with a malformed ShotInfo tag that can cause applications decoding the image to crash. The vulnerability arises from reading past a short ShotInfo buffer when the tag declares an unexpected version number.
