A fix is available in AnyIO version 0.32. Users should upgrade to version 0.32 or later to resolve this issue. No additional mitigation is required once the update is applied.

Description

AnyIO versions >=0.31.1 and <0.32 contain a vulnerability (CVE-2026-63349) where the run_process() and open_process() functions incorrectly handle the extra_groups argument. This causes child processes to retain the parent process's supplementary groups instead of correctly setting or clearing them. This issue affects POSIX privilege dropping, potentially allowing less-privileged child processes to inherit unintended group privileges. The flaw is fixed in AnyIO version 0.32.
