Malicious code in django-bkvision (PyPI)

Published: 06/29/2026 (06/29/2026, 09:41:45 UTC)
Source: GCVE Database
Product: django-bkvision

Description

The django-bkvision package version 1.2.0 on PyPI contains malicious code that executes during installation. This code collects host metadata such as hostname, username, current working directory, Python version, platform, process ID, and timestamp, then sends this information to an external webhook. Additionally, it performs an HTTP GET request to an internal IP address and forwards the response status and partial content to the same external webhook, effectively enabling server-side request forgery (SSRF) detection. The malicious behavior occurs unconditionally during installation, despite claims that it is gated by environment variables. This package is a dependency confusion attack targeting environments that resolve django-bkvision==1.2.0 from public PyPI instead of the intended internal package.

Technical Analysis

The django-bkvision PyPI package version 1.2.0 contains malicious install-time code that exfiltrates host metadata and performs SSRF checks by querying an internal IP address, forwarding results to an external Lark bot webhook. This occurs unconditionally during installation via setup.py. The package name mimics an internal dependency referenced by TencentBlueKing/BKFlow, enabling dependency confusion attacks. The package has no legitimate functionality beyond this data exfiltration and SSRF behavior.

Potential Impact

Installing or importing django-bkvision version 1.2.0 results in exfiltration of sensitive host metadata to an external attacker-controlled webhook. It also enables SSRF detection by sending internal network responses externally. This compromises confidentiality of system information and internal network details. There is no indication of further payloads or persistence mechanisms. No known exploits in the wild have been reported.

Mitigation Recommendations

No official patch or remediation is currently documented. Users should avoid installing django-bkvision version 1.2.0 from public PyPI, especially in environments that rely on this package name for internal dependencies. Verify package sources and use dependency pinning or private package indexes to prevent dependency confusion. Monitor for updates from the vendor or PyPI regarding remediation. Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance.
