Memory Allocation with Excessive Size Value vulnerability in Apache ActiveMQ, Apache ActiveMQ All, Apache ActiveMQ Stomp. (CVE-2026-53916)
Description
A vulnerability in Apache ActiveMQ allows an unauthenticated client opening a STOMP NIO connection to send header bytes that never terminate, causing the broker to buffer them without limit and exhaust the JVM heap. This can lead to denial of service due to resource exhaustion. The issue affects Apache ActiveMQ versions before 5.19.8 and from 6.0.0 before 6.2.7. Upgrading to versions 5.19.8 or 6.2.7 resolves the vulnerability.

Technical Analysis
CVE-2026-53916 describes a memory allocation vulnerability in Apache ActiveMQ and its STOMP component where an unauthenticated client can send indefinitely long header bytes over a STOMP NIO connection. This causes the broker to buffer data without limit, exhausting the JVM heap memory and potentially causing a denial of service. The vulnerability affects Apache ActiveMQ versions prior to 5.19.8 and versions from 6.0.0 up to but not including 6.2.7. The issue is fixed in Apache ActiveMQ 5.19.8 and 6.2.7.
Potential Impact
An unauthenticated attacker can cause the Apache ActiveMQ broker to exhaust its JVM heap memory by sending specially crafted STOMP NIO connection headers that never terminate. This leads to denial of service conditions, impacting availability. There is no impact on confidentiality or integrity reported.
Mitigation Recommendations
Upgrade Apache ActiveMQ to version 5.19.8 or 6.2.7 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. No other mitigation is indicated or required as per the available data.
