AI-suggested
A fix is available. Users should update to the patched versions of the affected Microsoft.NETCore.App.Runtime.win packages: 8.0.33, 9.0.22, 10.0.14, or 11.0.0-rc.3.26522.148 depending on their installed version. Applications must be restarted after updating. Self-contained applications targeting vulnerable versions must be recompiled and redeployed. Visual Studio users will be prompted to update the .NET SDKs accordingly.
Description
A high-severity vulnerability (CVE-2026-70197) exists in Microsoft .NET's System.Net.Sockets on Windows platforms. The flaw involves reusing a SocketAsyncEventArgs instance across IPv4 and IPv6 datagram sockets, which can cause an undersized cached native address buffer to be retained. This leads to an unauthenticated out-of-bounds write during the ReceiveFromAsync operation. Multiple Microsoft.NETCore.App.Runtime.win packages across various Windows architectures are affected. Patched versions are available to address this issue.
