Description

A missing authorization vulnerability exists in the system-privileged 'DJIUpdateService' binder in DJI CrystalSky ZS600C firmware versions 0.3.9.7 through 0.6.6.9 on Android. This flaw allows a local application without any permissions to invoke privileged operations such as factory reset with user-data wipe, device shutdown, clock/timezone changes, and firmware update hand-off. The root cause is that the onTransact() method does not perform any caller-identity or permission checks.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability (CVE-2026-114356) affects the DJI CrystalSky ZS600C firmware versions 0.3.9.7 through 0.6.6.9 on Android. The system-privileged 'DJIUpdateService' binder lacks authorization checks in its onTransact() method, enabling any local application without permissions to execute sensitive operations including factory reset (transaction 153), shutdown (105), clock/timezone changes (101/123), and firmware-apply hand-off (151). This is a classic missing authorization issue (CWE-862) that compromises device integrity and control.

Potential Impact

An unprivileged local application can perform critical system operations such as wiping user data via factory reset, shutting down the device, changing system time and timezone, and initiating firmware updates. This can lead to denial of service, loss of user data, and unauthorized firmware modifications, severely impacting device availability and integrity.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, restrict installation of untrusted local applications and limit physical or local access to the device to trusted users only.
