Until a fix is available, avoid processing untrusted RLE8 or RLE4 BMP images with the affected libnsbmp versions.

Description

NetSurf libnsbmp versions up to 0.1.7 contain an out-of-bounds read vulnerability in the bmp_decode_rle8() and bmp_decode_rle4() functions. This flaw arises because the absolute-run bound checks omit the word-alignment pad byte, allowing crafted RLE8 or RLE4 BMP images with an odd-length absolute run to trigger a one-byte heap over-read. This can cause applications decoding such untrusted images to crash.
