Node axios: From 1.17.0 until 1.20.0, the fetch adapter bypasses the maxRedirects: 0 redirect policy. (CVE-2026-101907)
Description
Axios versions from 1.17.0 up to but not including 1.20.0 have a vulnerability in the fetch adapter where the maxRedirects: 0 setting is bypassed. This causes the underlying fetch implementation to follow redirects even when redirects are disabled, potentially allowing redirected requests to access internal responses or state-changing internal endpoints. The issue is fixed in version 1.20.0.

Technical Analysis
Axios is a promise-based HTTP client for browsers and Node.js. In versions 1.17.0 through 1.19.x, the fetch adapter does not respect the maxRedirects: 0 policy. When maxRedirects is set to zero, Axios is expected to return redirect responses unchanged. However, due to this flaw, the underlying fetch implementation follows redirects regardless, which can lead to unintended access to internal responses or endpoints that should be protected by redirect restrictions. This vulnerability is resolved in Axios version 1.20.0.
Potential Impact
An attacker could exploit this vulnerability to bypass redirect restrictions set by maxRedirects: 0, potentially allowing access to internal or state-changing endpoints that should not be reachable via redirects. This could lead to unauthorized actions or information disclosure within applications using affected Axios versions.
Mitigation Recommendations
Upgrade Axios to version 1.20.0 or later, where this issue is fixed. There is no indication that temporary mitigations or workarounds are available or recommended. Users should verify they are not using affected versions and update accordingly.
