As a mitigation, ensure that the OAuthLib implementation validates the device_code parameter in the token request as per RFC 8628 requirements. Implement a validate_device_code method in the RequestValidator and invoke it within DeviceCodeGrant.validate_token_request to verify the device_code's validity. Also, verify proper handling of public clients in client authentication. Monitor for vendor updates and apply official patches when available.
Description
OAuthLib's implementation of the OAuth 2.0 device authorization grant (RFC 8628) contains a vulnerability where the token endpoint does not validate the device_code parameter. This allows an attacker who knows a valid client ID enabled for the device workflow to obtain a bearer token without a valid device_code. The issue arises because the DeviceCodeGrant.validate_token_request method lacks proper validation of the device_code parameter. This affects versions of the product evernote-backup starting from 1.13.1_2. The vulnerability has a high severity with a CVSS score of 8.5.
