AI-suggested
A fix is available in OAuthlib version 5.14.0_17. Users should upgrade to this version or later to remediate the issue. Until patched, deployments should verify that their RequestValidator implementations do not authorize based solely on the client_id argument passed by OAuthlib, but instead rely on the authenticated client object (request.client) for authorization decisions. This can mitigate the risk by preventing the attacker-supplied client_id from influencing grant and scope validation.
Description
OAuthlib contains a vulnerability in its token grant handlers where an authenticated low-privilege client can supply a different client_id in the token request body, causing authorization checks to be performed under that other client identity. This affects the client_credentials and password grant flows. The flaw arises because OAuthlib does not require the authenticated client's client_id to match the client_id parameter in the request body during grant and scope validation. This can lead to token authorization bypass where a low-privilege client obtains tokens with scopes or grant types assigned to a higher-privilege client.
