Openclaw cli: OpenClaw affected by SSRF via attachment/media URL hydration (CVE-2026-28467)

Published: 08/13/2026 (08/13/2026, 17:21:32 UTC)
Source: GCVE Database
Product: openclaw-cli

Description

OpenClaw CLI versions prior to 2026.2.2 are vulnerable to a server-side request forgery (SSRF) via attachment or media URL hydration. An attacker able to control the media URL can cause the gateway to fetch arbitrary HTTP(S) URLs, including internal network endpoints, and send the fetched content as an outbound attachment. This vulnerability allows data exfiltration from internal or cloud metadata services but does not enable code execution or system compromise. The issue is fixed in version 2026.2.2 by implementing SSRF protections such as blocking private IP ranges, DNS pinning, and redirect handling.

Technical Analysis

The openclaw npm package before version 2026.2.2 performs unprotected HTTP fetches of URLs specified for attachments or media hydration. This allows an attacker who can influence these URLs to induce the gateway to request internal or otherwise restricted network resources (e.g., 127.0.0.1, RFC1918 addresses, cloud metadata endpoints). The response bytes from these requests are then sent out as attachments, resulting in a data leak. Starting with version 2026.2.2, SSRF protections prevent fetching from private or loopback IPs and enforce DNS pinning and redirect restrictions to mitigate this risk.

Potential Impact

An attacker with the ability to control media or attachment URLs can exploit this vulnerability to perform SSRF attacks, causing the gateway to fetch internal network resources and exfiltrate their content. This can lead to unauthorized disclosure of sensitive internal data accessible only from the gateway's network context. There is no direct impact on code execution or system integrity.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade openclaw to version 2026.2.2 or later, where SSRF protections have been implemented to block requests to private, loopback, and cloud metadata IP ranges. This update effectively mitigates the vulnerability.
