Openclaw cli: OpenClaw affected by SSRF via unguarded image download in fal provider (CVE-2026-34504)

Published: 08/13/2026 (08/13/2026, 17:21:32 UTC)
Source: GCVE Database
Product: openclaw-cli

Description

OpenClaw CLI versions from 2026.1.29 up to but not including 2026.3.28 contain a Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF) vulnerability in the fal provider's image download functionality. The fal provider used unguarded raw fetches for image URLs instead of the SSRF-protected fetch path, allowing a malicious or compromised fal relay to cause the gateway to fetch internal URLs. This could expose internal metadata or service responses through the image pipeline. The vulnerability is fixed in version 2026.3.28.

Technical Analysis

The fal provider component in OpenClaw CLI used raw fetches for both provider API traffic and image download URLs without SSRF protection. This allowed an attacker controlling or compromising a fal relay to induce the gateway to fetch internal network URLs, potentially leaking sensitive internal metadata or service responses via the image pipeline. The issue was addressed by adding SSRF guards to image fetches in commit 80d1e8a11a, with the fix included starting in OpenClaw CLI version 2026.3.28.

Potential Impact

An attacker with control or influence over a fal relay can exploit this SSRF vulnerability to make the OpenClaw gateway fetch internal URLs. This may lead to exposure of internal metadata or responses from internal services, potentially disclosing sensitive information that should not be externally accessible. There is no indication of remote code execution or privilege escalation from the provided data.

Mitigation Recommendations

A patch is available and should be applied. The vulnerability is fixed in OpenClaw CLI version 2026.3.28 and later. Users should upgrade to version 2026.3.28 or newer to mitigate this SSRF vulnerability. No additional mitigation steps are indicated by the vendor advisory.
