Description

The Openclaw CLI's BlueBubbles webhook authentication lacked rate limiting on password guesses, allowing brute-force attempts against weak webhook passwords. This vulnerability affects versions up to 2026.3.24 and was fixed in version 2026.3.25 by adding throttling on repeated incorrect password attempts.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-35623 describes a vulnerability in the Openclaw CLI's BlueBubbles webhook authentication mechanism where repeated incorrect password attempts were not throttled. This absence of rate limiting enabled attackers to perform brute-force guessing of weak webhook passwords. The issue was verified in version 2026.3.24 and resolved by commit 5e08ce36d522a1c96df2bfe88e39303ae2643d92, which introduced throttling before authentication failure responses. The vulnerability has a CVSS 3.1 base score of 4.8, indicating medium severity.

Potential Impact

An attacker can perform brute-force password guessing against the BlueBubbles webhook authentication due to missing rate limiting, potentially leading to unauthorized access if weak passwords are used. The impact is limited to confidentiality and integrity with no availability impact reported.

Mitigation Recommendations

A patch is available and was released in Openclaw CLI version 2026.3.25. Users should upgrade to this version or later to mitigate the vulnerability. No additional mitigation steps are required as the fix introduces proper throttling of repeated incorrect password attempts.
