Openclaw cli: OpenClaw: Browser CDP profile creation skipped strict-mode SSRF checks (CVE-2026-45000)
Description
OpenClaw CLI versions prior to 2026.4.20 have a vulnerability where browser CDP profile creation skips strict-mode SSRF checks. This allows stored profiles to reference private-network or metadata endpoints even when strict SSRF policies are enabled, potentially exposing internal resources during profile status checks. The issue only affects deployments with strict SSRF mode enabled, as default trusted-operator behavior permits private-network CDP endpoints. The vulnerability is considered low severity and has been fixed in version 2026.4.20.

Technical Analysis
OpenClaw CLI versions before 2026.4.20 normalize cdpUrl values during browser profile creation but do not enforce the configured browser SSRF policy at that time. Consequently, in strict-mode deployments that disable private-network CDP targets, profiles could still contain references to private-network or metadata endpoints. These endpoints could then be probed during normal profile status operations. The vulnerability is limited to strict-mode deployments since default trusted-operator settings allow private-network CDP endpoints. The issue was resolved by adding SSRF policy checks during both profile creation and reachability operations, with the fix included in version 2026.4.20.
Potential Impact
In strict-mode SSRF deployments, an attacker or user with profile creation capabilities could create browser profiles pointing to private-network or metadata endpoints, bypassing SSRF restrictions. These endpoints could then be probed during normal profile status checks, potentially exposing internal network information. The impact is limited to strict-mode configurations and is considered low severity due to the restricted scope and requirement for profile creation privileges.
Mitigation Recommendations
A fix is available in OpenClaw CLI version 2026.4.20. Users should upgrade to this version or later to ensure that browser SSRF policies are enforced during profile creation and reachability checks. No additional mitigation steps are required beyond applying the official patch.
