Openclaw cli: OpenClaw: Browser control startup could continue unauthenticated after auth bootstrap failure (CVE-2026-32041)

Published: 08/13/2026 (08/13/2026, 17:21:32 UTC)
Source: GCVE Database
Product: openclaw-cli

Description

OpenClaw CLI versions up to 2026.2.26 have a vulnerability where browser control startup can continue without authentication if the automatic auth bootstrap fails. This allows local or loopback-reachable processes to access browser-control routes without authentication. The issue is fixed in version 2026.3.1, where startup aborts if bootstrap auth fails and no explicit credentials are provided.

Technical Analysis

OpenClaw CLI's browser control feature attempts to bootstrap authentication automatically when started without explicit credentials. In affected versions (>=2026.1.29 and <2026.3.1), if the bootstrap step throws an error, the startup process continues, exposing browser-control routes without requiring authentication. This can allow a local process or a loopback-reachable SSRF path to access sensitive browser-control actions, including those capable of evaluating code. The vulnerability is addressed in version 2026.3.1 by changing the startup behavior to fail closed, aborting startup if bootstrap authentication fails and no explicit token or password is configured.

Potential Impact

An attacker with local access or the ability to reach the loopback interface via SSRF can access browser-control routes without authentication, potentially executing privileged actions. This compromises confidentiality and integrity of the affected system, with limited availability impact.

Mitigation Recommendations

A patch is available in OpenClaw CLI version 2026.3.1. Users should upgrade to this version or later to ensure that browser control startup fails closed on authentication bootstrap failure. No additional mitigations are required if the patch is applied.
