Technical Analysis

The vulnerability in openclaw-cli allows browser interaction or evaluation actions to navigate into the local CDP origin, bypassing direct navigation restrictions and enabling unauthorized file read access via file:// URLs. The fix involves re-checking browser URLs after interaction-driven navigations to block targets violating the navigation policy. The issue was resolved in pull request #63226, with the fix included starting in version 2026.4.9.

Potential Impact

An attacker leveraging browser interactions could bypass navigation guards to access or read local file:// pages through the local CDP origin, potentially exposing sensitive local files. This could lead to unauthorized local file disclosure.

Mitigation Recommendations

Users should upgrade to openclaw-cli version 2026.4.9 or later. The fix is included in version 2026.4.9 and subsequent releases such as 2026.4.14. Applying this update prevents the navigation pivot and unauthorized file read access.
