Description

OpenClaw CLI versions from 2026.1.29 up to but not including 2026.3.24 contain an authorization vulnerability (CVE-2026-35653) where authenticated users with operator.write access to the browser.request method can perform a POST /reset-profile request. This allows them to reset persistent browser profiles, which includes stopping the browser, closing connections, and moving profile data to Trash. The issue is a residual incomplete fix following a prior advisory and is rated high severity with a CVSS score of 8.1. The vulnerability is fixed in OpenClaw version 2026.3.24.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-35653 is an incorrect authorization vulnerability in OpenClaw CLI where the browser.request method on the operator.write surface improperly allows POST /reset-profile requests. Although previous fixes blocked profile creation and deletion routes, the reset-profile route was omitted from the mutation gate, enabling destructive profile resets by authenticated users with operator.write privileges. This results in integrity and availability impacts on persistent browser profiles, including stopping the browser, closing Playwright connections, and moving user data directories to Trash. The vulnerability affects OpenClaw versions >=2026.1.29 and <2026.3.24 and is fixed in version 2026.3.24.

Potential Impact

An authenticated user with operator.write access to browser.request can reset persistent browser profiles, causing the browser to stop, connections to close, and local profile data to be moved to Trash. This leads to loss of persistent browser state and impacts both integrity and availability of the affected profiles.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fix is available in OpenClaw version 2026.3.24. Users should upgrade to this version or later to remediate the vulnerability. No additional mitigation steps are indicated by the vendor advisory.
