Description

OpenClaw CLI versions before 2026.4.10 have a vulnerability where channel setup catalog lookups could include untrusted workspace plugin shadows. This can cause setup-time plugin loading without the intended trust gate, potentially leading to high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The issue is fixed in version 2026.4.10 and later.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability in OpenClaw CLI involves channel setup catalog lookups that may resolve to untrusted workspace plugin shadows instead of the intended bundled channel plugins. This flaw allows setup-time plugin loading to bypass the trust gate, potentially leading to unauthorized code execution or other security breaches. The fix ensures that setup catalog lookups are routed through trusted catalog paths and excludes workspace shadows where appropriate by using the 'excludeWorkspace: true' flag. The issue is patched starting from version 2026.4.10, with the fix included in [email protected].

Potential Impact

An attacker could exploit this vulnerability to cause the OpenClaw CLI to load untrusted plugins during setup, bypassing trust controls. This can compromise the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the system using the affected software.

Mitigation Recommendations

Users should upgrade to OpenClaw CLI version 2026.4.10 or later. The latest npm release, 2026.4.14, includes the fix. Applying this update will ensure that channel setup catalog lookups do not include untrusted workspace plugin shadows, restoring the intended trust gate.
