Published: 08/13/2026 (08/13/2026, 17:21:32 UTC)
Source: GCVE Database
Product: openclaw-cli

Description

OpenClaw CLI versions from 2026.1.29 up to but not including 2026.3.28 contain a vulnerability where remote onboarding accepts discovered gateway endpoints without explicit trust confirmation before saving connection details. This allows a malicious or spoofed discovery endpoint to redirect onboarding to an attacker-controlled gateway, potentially capturing gateway credentials and traffic. The issue is fixed in version 2026.3.28.

Technical Analysis

The OpenClaw CLI remote onboarding feature persisted discovered gateway endpoints without requiring explicit user confirmation of trust. This flaw allowed an attacker controlling a discovery endpoint to redirect onboarding to a malicious gateway, enabling exfiltration of gateway credentials and interception of traffic. The vulnerability affects versions from 2026.1.29 up to 2026.3.27 inclusive and was fixed in version 2026.3.28 by adding confirmation prompts before saving remote gateway configurations.

Potential Impact

An attacker who can spoof or control a discovery endpoint may redirect onboarding to a malicious gateway, leading to credential theft and potential interception of sensitive gateway traffic. This compromises confidentiality and integrity of gateway credentials and communications.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade to OpenClaw CLI version 2026.3.28 or later, which includes a fix requiring explicit user confirmation before saving discovered remote gateways. This patch prevents unauthorized persistence of attacker-controlled endpoints.
