Description

OpenClaw CLI versions up to 2026.3.11 have a vulnerability where non-owner users with command authorization could access privileged /config and /debug command surfaces intended only for owners. This flaw allowed unauthorized reading or modification of sensitive configuration and debugging settings. The issue is fixed in version 2026.3.12 by enforcing owner checks on these privileged commands.

Technical Analysis

OpenClaw CLI documented the /config and /debug commands as restricted to owners only. However, the command handlers incorrectly checked only for command authorization, not ownership. This allowed lower-trust, non-owner users who were authorized to run commands to access and modify privileged configuration and debugging interfaces. The vulnerability affects versions from 2026.1.29 up to but not including 2026.3.12. The issue is resolved in version 2026.3.12 by adding proper owner checks and regression tests for access control.

Potential Impact

Non-owner users with command authorization could read or change privileged configuration and debugging settings that should have been restricted to owners. This could lead to unauthorized disclosure, modification, or disruption of the system's configuration and debugging state.

Mitigation Recommendations

A patch is available in OpenClaw CLI version 2026.3.12 that enforces owner checks on privileged command surfaces. Users should upgrade to version 2026.3.12 or later to remediate this vulnerability.
