Description

OpenClaw CLI versions from 2026.3.24 up to but not including 2026.4.7 contain a symlink traversal vulnerability. This flaw allows attackers to escape the intended repository root directory by supplying crafted symbolic link paths in remote marketplace repository handling. The vulnerability can lead to unauthorized read access to files outside the expected repository directory.

Technical Analysis

OpenClaw CLI versions >=2026.3.24 and <2026.4.7 have a symlink traversal vulnerability in the handling of remote marketplace repository paths. Attackers can exploit this by providing specially crafted symlink paths to traverse outside the intended repository root directory, potentially accessing sensitive files. The vulnerability has a CVSS 3.1 base score of 6.5, reflecting network attack vector, low attack complexity, no privileges required, user interaction required, unchanged scope, high confidentiality impact, no integrity or availability impact. A patch is available to address this issue.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows an attacker to read files outside the designated repository directory by escaping the repository root via symlink traversal. This can lead to unauthorized disclosure of sensitive information. There is no impact on integrity or availability. The vulnerability requires user interaction but no privileges.

Mitigation Recommendations

A patch is available for OpenClaw CLI to fix this symlink traversal vulnerability. Users should upgrade to version 2026.4.7 or later to remediate the issue. No additional mitigation steps are indicated by the vendor advisory.
