Openclaw cli: OpenClaw Discord moderation authorization used untrusted sender identity in tool-driven flows (CVE-2026-27484)

Source: GCVE Database
Product: openclaw-cli

Description

Openclaw CLI versions up to 2026.2.17 have a vulnerability in Discord moderation action handling where sender identity is taken from untrusted request parameters instead of a trusted runtime context. This allows a non-admin user with the bot's guild permissions to spoof sender identity and request moderation actions such as timeout, kick, or ban. The issue is fixed in version 2026.2.18 by using a trusted sender context and adding permission checks.

Technical Analysis

The Openclaw CLI Discord moderation feature improperly used sender identity from request parameters in tool-driven flows, rather than a trusted runtime sender context. This flaw allowed non-admin users to spoof sender identity fields and perform moderation actions if the bot had the necessary guild permissions. The vulnerability affects openclaw versions up to 2026.2.17 and is addressed in the next release 2026.2.18 by switching to a trusted sender context (`requesterSenderId`) and enforcing permission checks for guild capabilities per action.

Potential Impact

A non-admin user could exploit this vulnerability to perform unauthorized Discord moderation actions (timeout, kick, ban) by spoofing sender identity fields in requests. This could lead to improper moderation actions within Discord guilds where the bot is deployed and has permissions.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fix is available in openclaw CLI version 2026.2.18. Users should upgrade to this version or later to ensure moderation authorization uses the trusted sender context and enforces proper permission checks. No additional mitigation is required beyond applying the official fix.
