Description

A vulnerability in openclaw-cli allowed Discord text approval commands to bypass the configured approver allowlist, enabling non-approved users to resolve pending execution approvals. This flaw affected versions from 2026.1.29 up to but not including 2026.3.28. The issue was fixed in version 2026.3.28 by enforcing approver checks for text approvals.

Technical Analysis

The openclaw-cli product had a security flaw (CVE-2026-41303) where Discord text commands using `/approve` did not properly enforce the configured approver allowlist in the exec approvals feature. As a result, any Discord user with permission to send commands could approve pending host execution requests even if they were not authorized approvers. The vulnerability affected the components `extensions/discord/src/exec-approvals.ts` and `src/auto-reply/reply/commands-approve.ts`. The issue was patched in version 2026.3.28 by commit 355abe5eba, which enforced approver checks for text approvals.

Potential Impact

Unauthorized Discord users with command sending permissions could approve pending execution requests, potentially leading to unauthorized host execution. The CVSS 3.1 score is 8.8 (high), reflecting network attack vector, low attack complexity, required privileges, no user interaction, and high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Mitigation Recommendations

A patch is available and should be applied. Users should upgrade openclaw-cli to version 2026.3.28 or later, which contains the fix enforcing approver checks for Discord text approvals. No other mitigation is indicated or necessary once patched.
