Technical Analysis
The openclaw-cli package prior to version 2026.4.12 contains a vulnerability where empty resolved approver lists are incorrectly interpreted as explicit approval authorization. This flaw allows a sender outside the normal channel authorization gate to resolve pending approvals by knowing an approval ID. The vulnerability was addressed by preventing empty approver lists from granting approval authorization and adding regression tests to prevent unauthorized access. The fix was introduced in pull request #65714 and included starting with version 2026.4.12.
Potential Impact
An attacker with knowledge of an approval ID could bypass normal authorization controls in helper-backed channels and resolve pending approvals without proper permissions. This leads to unauthorized approval actions, impacting the integrity of the approval process. The CVSS v3.1 score is 6.5 (medium severity), indicating a significant impact on integrity but no confidentiality or availability impact.
Mitigation Recommendations
Users should upgrade to openclaw-cli version 2026.4.12 or later. The fix is included starting with this version, and the latest release 2026.4.14 contains the patch. Applying this update prevents empty approver lists from granting explicit approval authorization.
