Openclaw cli: OpenClaw: Fake DeviceToken Bypasses Shared Auth Rate Limiting (CVE-2026-41333)
Description
CVE-2026-41333 is a low severity vulnerability in the openclaw-cli package where a fake DeviceToken can bypass shared authentication rate limiting. This affects versions from 2026.1.29 up to but not including 2026.3.31. The issue primarily impacts deployments using weak shared passwords, while strong shared tokens remain resistant to brute force attacks. The vulnerability has been fixed in version 2026.3.31.

Technical Analysis
The vulnerability in openclaw-cli allows an attacker to bypass shared authentication rate limiting by using a fake DeviceToken. This flaw exists in the mixed WebSocket authentication flow shipped with versions >=2026.1.29 and <2026.3.31. The practical risk is limited to environments with weak shared-password configurations, as strong shared tokens are not susceptible to brute force. The fix was committed and released in version 2026.3.31.
Potential Impact
An attacker can bypass rate limiting on shared authentication by presenting a fake DeviceToken, potentially allowing more authentication attempts than intended. However, the impact is low because strong shared tokens remain secure against brute force, and the vulnerability mainly affects weak shared-password deployments.
Mitigation Recommendations
Upgrade openclaw-cli to version 2026.3.31 or later, where the vulnerability is fixed. No additional mitigation is required if the updated version is deployed.
