Source: GCVE Database
Product: openclaw-cli

Description

OpenClaw CLI versions up to 2026.3.8 contain a vulnerability in the public gateway 'agent' RPC that allows an authenticated operator with 'operator.write' permission to override workspace boundaries. This enables the operator to run processes outside the intended workspace directory, potentially accessing and executing files from arbitrary directories. The issue is fixed in version 2026.3.11 and later.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability in OpenClaw CLI's public gateway 'agent' RPC permits an authenticated operator with 'operator.write' privileges to supply attacker-controlled 'spawnedBy' and 'workspaceDir' parameters. This flaw allows the operator to escape the configured workspace boundary and execute commands from arbitrary directories accessible to the process. The vulnerability affects versions from 2026.1.29 up to but not including 2026.3.11. The issue is resolved in version 2026.3.11, which enforces workspace boundaries regardless of caller-supplied overrides.

Potential Impact

A non-owner operator with 'operator.write' permission can bypass workspace restrictions and execute normal file and execution tools from any process-accessible directory. This could lead to unauthorized access and control over files and processes outside the intended workspace, impacting confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Mitigation Recommendations

A patch is available and should be applied. The vulnerability is fixed in OpenClaw CLI version 2026.3.11 and later releases such as 2026.3.12. Upgrading to these versions enforces the configured workspace boundary and prevents caller-supplied overrides.
