Published: 08/13/2026 (08/13/2026, 17:21:32 UTC)
Source: GCVE Database
Product: openclaw-cli

Description

OpenClaw CLI versions up to 2026.3.24 contain a vulnerability where the allow-always persistence mechanism over-trusts positional wrapper carrier executables instead of the actual target executable. This can cause a broader execution allowlist entry than intended, weakening execution approval boundaries. The issue is fixed in version 2026.3.28.

Technical Analysis

The OpenClaw CLI's allow-always persistence feature incorrectly trusts wrapper carrier executables used to dispatch commands, rather than the actual invoked target executable. This flaw allows a one-time approval to create a more permissive future allowlist entry than the operator intended, potentially weakening execution approval controls. The vulnerability affects the component src/infra/exec-approvals-allowlist.ts and is fixed in version 2026.3.28 by rejecting wrapper carrier allow-always targets.

Potential Impact

A one-time approval of a command routed through a wrapper executable can result in a persistent allowlist entry that is broader than intended. This weakens the execution approval boundaries, potentially allowing unauthorized or unintended executables to run with elevated trust, impacting confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fix is available in OpenClaw CLI version 2026.3.28 and later. Users should upgrade to version 2026.3.28 or newer to mitigate this vulnerability. No additional mitigation steps are indicated by the vendor advisory.
