Openclaw cli: OpenClaw: Gateway hello snapshots exposed host config and state paths to non-admin clients (CVE-2026-41339)

Medium
Published: 08/13/2026 (08/13/2026, 17:21:32 UTC)
Source: GCVE Database
Product: openclaw-cli

Description

OpenClaw CLI versions prior to 2026.4.2 exposed local host configuration and state directory paths to non-admin authenticated clients via the Gateway connect success snapshot. This information disclosure vulnerability allows low-privilege users to learn filesystem layout and deployment metadata that are unnecessary for their role. The issue does not allow direct authorization bypass but could aid in host fingerprinting and chained attacks. The vulnerability is fixed in version 2026.4.2.

Technical Analysis

Before OpenClaw version 2026.4.2, the Gateway connect success snapshot returned metadata including local configPath and stateDir to non-admin clients. This exposure allowed low-privilege authenticated users to obtain host-specific filesystem paths and deployment details. The vulnerability is an information disclosure issue, not an authorization bypass. The fix limits connect snapshot metadata visibility to admin-scoped clients only. The affected package is openclaw (npm), with affected versions from 2026.1.29 up to but not including 2026.4.2. The patch is included in 2026.4.2.

Potential Impact

Non-admin authenticated clients could gain knowledge of host filesystem layout and deployment metadata, which could facilitate host fingerprinting and potentially assist in chained attacks. There is no direct impact on authorization or system availability.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade openclaw to version 2026.4.2 or later, where the issue is fixed by restricting sensitive metadata to admin-scoped clients. Since the fix is available, applying this official patch is the recommended remediation.
