Openclaw cli: OpenClaw: Gateway HTTP /sessions/:sessionKey/kill Reaches Admin Kill Path Without Caller Scope Binding (CVE-2026-34512)

Published: 08/13/2026 (08/13/2026, 17:21:32 UTC)
Source: GCVE Database
Product: openclaw-cli

Description

A vulnerability in openclaw-cli allows the HTTP route /sessions/:sessionKey/kill to reach an admin kill path without properly binding the action to the requester's ownership or granted operator scopes. This means any bearer-authenticated request was previously treated as admin-eligible, potentially allowing unauthorized session termination. The flaw has been addressed by removing the bearer-token admin fallback and restricting remote session kills to local-admin or requester-owned sessions only.

Technical Analysis

The openclaw-cli product had a security flaw in its HTTP gateway route /sessions/:sessionKey/kill where any bearer-authenticated request could invoke an admin-level session kill without verifying the requester's ownership or operator scopes. This lack of caller scope binding allowed unauthorized users with bearer tokens to perform admin-level session termination actions. The vulnerability was fixed by removing the bearer-token admin fallback and enforcing that remote session kills are limited to local-admin users or the session owner only.

Potential Impact

Unauthorized users with bearer tokens could previously terminate sessions without proper authorization checks, potentially disrupting legitimate user sessions or administrative operations. The vulnerability could lead to unauthorized session termination but does not indicate privilege escalation beyond session kill capabilities.

Mitigation Recommendations

A patch is available that removes the bearer-token admin fallback and restricts session kill actions to local-admin or requester-owned sessions only. Users should upgrade to a fixed version to remediate this vulnerability.
