Description

The Openclaw CLI had a vulnerability in its Gateway Plugin Subagent fallback deleteSession function, which used a synthetic operator.admin scope when no request-scoped client existed. This allowed deletion operations to be performed with elevated privileges. The issue was fixed in version 2026.3.25 by binding deletion to the caller's scope instead of minting an admin scope.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-35645 describes a privilege escalation vulnerability in the Openclaw CLI's Gateway Plugin Subagent fallback deleteSession function. Prior to version 2026.3.25, the deleteSession function dispatched sessions.delete with a synthetic operator.admin runtime scope if no request-scoped client was present, effectively granting elevated administrative privileges. The vulnerability was addressed in commit b5d785f1a59a56c3471f2cef328f7c9a6c15f3e7 by ensuring deletion operations are bound to the caller's scope rather than an admin scope.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability allows an attacker with limited privileges (PR:L) to perform deletion operations with elevated privileges (operator.admin), potentially leading to high integrity and availability impact. The CVSS 3.1 score is 8.1 (high), indicating a significant risk of unauthorized modification or deletion of sessions.

Mitigation Recommendations

A patch is available and was introduced in Openclaw CLI version 2026.3.25. Users should upgrade to version 2026.3.25 or later to remediate this vulnerability. No additional mitigation steps are indicated by the vendor advisory.
